BATANGAS CITY - On August 15-17, 27 lifeguards from various city beach resorts received Basic Life Support training, followed by Basic Water Safety and Rescue Training with Lifeguard Qualification Assessment on August 22-26.
This training is a City Tourism Office project aimed at providing lifeguards with the necessary skills to ensure the safety of resort guests and save lives in times of need.
Erick Sanohan, OIC-City Tourism Officer, praised the participants for their perseverance in the face of adversity during the training."Sa pamamagitan ng lifesaving skills na inyong natutunan, mas confident na kayo na humarap sa mga sakuna at makasagip ng buhay gayundin maaari na kayong makatulong ng pamahalaang lungsod sa panahon ng kalamidad, " Sanohan said.
He also stated that licensed lifeguards might become a requirement for resort business permits.
The Tourism Office's partner in the said project is the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), which helped manage the training, and the Philippine Red Cross Batangas Chapter, which provided the training.
The training used the swimming pool and the open sea.
Those who graduated were given a certificate and will receive their license on September 15 should be renewed every two years.
The participants who attended were very grateful because they increased their knowledge and skills and the opportunity to become licensed lifeguards.
