ANTIPOLO, Rizal - Amid the majority's extreme distress and poverty, Soroptimist International (SI) of Antipolo launched MATibay na Hanapbuhay on March 5, 2022, for the mothers of Brgy Dela Paz, a SI Antipolo partner barangay. Its goal is to teach the beneficiaries how to earn money, even if it is only to help with the family's food expenses.
During the Biennium 2020-2022, SI Antipolo received a grant and incentive from the Soroptimist International of the Americas Philippines Region for this economic program was spent on two days of training and materials used to weave doormats and bathroom mats or rugs.
Approximately 20 women, aged 41 on average currently enrolled in this program. Although some people do temporarily stop because they are sick or caring for a sick child or family member.
SI Antipolo continues to support this program by supplying retasos used in weaving, purchasing the finished products from the mothers, and managing the sale of the finished products.
The SI livelihood program can meet the strict needs of the beneficiaries when many are hungry, not only because of a lack of work that can adequately support the needs of the family but also because of the constant increase in the price of food and other day-to-day necessities.
Mothers are overjoyed when they receive payment for the mats or rugs, they make when they have nothing else to do at home. Antipolo is also pleased because it is carrying out the Soroptimist mission of improving the lives of women and young women by providing them with the financial ability to improve the lives of women and girls by providing them with the training, they need to achieve economic empowerment.
