PAGSANJAN, Laguna - Former CPP-NPA-NDF members gathered and burned the rebel groups' flags to condemn the atrocities committed by the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA) and its political wing, the National Democratic Front (NDF).
The rites were recently held on Friday at the Christian Camp of the Philippines in Pagsanjan, Laguna, in conjunction with the Former Rebels Summit.
The burning of flags also represents their rejection of the rebel groups' false ideology and return to the government.
Former insurgents and representatives from various government agencies also signed a peace covenant to continue their respective peace campaigns.
Witnessed by representatives of national and local government agencies such as the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Laguna, Provincial Government of Laguna, Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Laguna, Laguna Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (PENRO), Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Laguna, Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) IV-A, National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) IV-A, Laguna Police Provincial Office, and Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Laguna such program, and expressed their support and projects for ex-rebels.
Colonel Erwin Alea of the Philippine Army's 202nd Infantry "Unifier" Brigade assures former insurgents that the government will continue to provide them with economical services to live normally. The Philippine Army also promised to provide additional security to former insurgents who face threats to their lives. (with report PIA-Laguna)
