SAN MATEO, Rizal - A group of police officers and the San Mateo local government held a commemoration ceremony for the 123rd anniversary of the Battle of San Mateo, Rizal, on December 19, 2022.
The commemoration ceremony was preceded by the offering of flowers on the Philippine flag in honor of the Filipinos who had won the historical battle and killed Major General Henry Lawton, the only American general killed during the Philippine-American War.
It was attended by Mayor Omie Rivera, Vice Mayor Jimmy Roxas, Councilor Boy Salen, Councilor Leo Buenviaje, Councilor Cris Cruz, Councilor Joey Briones, and Councilor Joel Diaz.
They also included captains from different barangays, Cap. Hector Reyes, Cap. Jojo Juta, Cap. Larisa Adora, Cap. Jomer Cruz and Cap. Lito Chiombon.
The celebration is a concerted effort by the Historical Society of San Mateo Rizal Inc.
This celebration is not the first time San Mateo has recognized this historic day, nor will it be the last.
