PAETE, Laguna — The town of Paete, Laguna, has been dubbed the "Woodcarving Capital of the Philippines" due to its rich history and culture of wood carving.
Aside from wood carving, agriculture has the potential to grow in the town.
For Paete Mayor Ronald Cosico, one of the main things his administration will pay attention to is the strengthening of support to farmers and fishermen based on the Executive Legislative Agenda of the town.
The Paete LGU recently contacted the Department of Agriculture (DA) IV-A to inquire about the experimental farm in town to test new farming and harvesting methods.
According to the observations, the upland farmers' lands in the mountains covered by Paete can be used to ensure food security in the town.
“Nakakatuwa ang pagpupulong at marami[sic] pwede[sic] gawin sa ating bayan upang mapaunlad ito at maging food and vegetable hub ang ating masaganang kabundukan,” part of Cosico's statement.
The town also sees the possibility of attracting investors interested in wind energy development by erecting windmills in the mountains.
The mayor is confident that the projects will continue.
