SILANG, Cavite - The local government of Silang and its Catholic church will attempt the Guinness World Record for the longest candlelit relay or line of candles on January 22, as part of the celebration of the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria Feast.

According to Silang Mayor Kevin Anarna's social media post, the town is ready for the candlelit relay, which will begin at the historic church of Silang in its town proper and end at the new municipal hall grounds in Barangay Biga 1, a distance of approximately two kilometers.



Volunteers have also begun rehearsing for the first attempt at a Guinness World Record.

The first record for the longest line of candles lit was set in India on October 14, 2016, for an event organized by the movement.



"Together with our Church, let's come together on January 22nd at 6:00 p.m. for the queue of people holding candles. Our town will be better known not only in the whole Philippines but also in the whole world," Anarna said.

During the pandemic, Silang was recognized as one of the most popular in horticulture, as well as a new "gourmet destination" for tourists.
