TAGKAWAYAN, Quezon – After a three-year hiatus due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic, the Kaway, the festival in the town of "Hiyas sa dulo ng Timog Katagalugan," returns.

Mayor Eleazar said that provincial government festivals are a week-long celebration that usually begins on February 1 and ends on February 11, the Town Fiesta itself.

"The festival commemorates and honors Tagkawayanin tradition, history, and culture." he said.

Senior Tourism Operations Officer Anna Louella Villanueva explained that their town is a combination of agriculture and fishery and is known for having a lot of orange trees, which is why orange juice is one of the products they sell.

Each event and activity highleightes the culture and traditions while preserving and conserving the cultural heritage for future generations.

She also said that one of their programs focused on opening of tourist spots such as various falls and other tourist destinations where tourist guides will assist both local and foreign tourists.

Meanwhile, Mayor Eleazar announced that one of Tagkawayan's current programs is to build its power plant, which will benefit the residents.

“Sa ngayon po ay tuloy-tuloy naman ang konstruksiyon ng sanitary landfill dito sa aming bayan," he added.

Aside from the traditional parades, festival dance competition, Ginoo at Binibining Tagkawayan beauty pageant, and Gabi ng Kabataan, among other activities, this festival will feature an event for farmers and fishermen called the "Araw ng Magsasaka't Mangingisda."

Other activities are Grand Rosary Rally; Agri-Tourism Trade Fair; Kaway Bazaar; Gawad Kulinarya Fest; Hatawan ng Tagkawayan; Kaway 1st Extreme Mountainbike Adventure Challenge; Gabi ng Kalinangan; Tunighaw/Beer Plaza; Governor’s & Congressman’s Night; Kaway V2 Adventour Challenge; Lungkasan ng mga Barangay; Feast Day of Our Lady of Lourdes.

The provincial government canceled the Kaway Festival in 2021 - 2020 due to the threat of Covid-19 and only celebrated it virtually.

“Despite the tentative preparations, the health, safety, and well-being of all Tagkawayanin remain a top priority.” Eleazar then said.

The 'Kaway Festival' is held annually to commemorate the town's founding anniversary, which will be the 82nd this year.
