ANGONO, Rizal - To promote backyard farming in every home, the local government here has launched the Project Pantanim.
Residents of this town has flocked for free seedling distribution to Plaza Rizal on Monday, February 27, an official said.
At the height of the pandemic, Mayor Jeri Mae Calderon and Vice Mayor Gerardo Calderon collaborated on the Project Pantanim program with Dr. Joel Tuplano and the Municipal Agriculture and Veterinary Office.
The lady mayor says that many people were encouraged to plant in their yards during the pandemic, which paved the way for the Project Pantanim that will add food or food security to every dining table more economically and effectively.
Furthermore, she noted that each household's plants help to reduce pollution.
"This program aims to restore the vitality of agriculture by planting not only large plots of land but also small spaces." she added.
Dr. Tuplano, the Agriculture Director, encourages citizens to plant vegetables so that they can harvest them.
Tuplano explained that this project would be carried out on a daily basis in the Agriculture office's greenhouses, with a seedling distribution day set aside each month in the plaza.
There will be eggplant, tomato, okra, beans, and squash seedlings to be distribute.
The town of Angono government is open to working with other towns to share this project.
