LUCENA CITY, Quezon - During a recent guest appearance on Radyo Pilipino Lucena, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reminded the public to always take extra precautions and stay alert to prevent fires. This is because March is National Fire Prevention Month, and the whole country is celebrating it.
The BFP also emphasized the importance of conducting fire drills and ensuring that fire exits are clear and accessible.
According to the BFP, by working together, we can contribute to the prevention of fires and ensure the safety of our communities.
Fire Senior Inspector Charlie Beltran said, "Addressing fires begins with prevention, and this can be done by ensuring that the causes are avoided."
According to Beltran, the main causes of the fire inside the house were an electrical malfunction, an exploding LPG tank, electrical appliances and gadgets left plugged in, and children playing with matches.
Beltran also urged the public to call the BFP immediately if they suspect a fire in their area and to take preventative measures.
"Each family member should be alert and aware of their role in fire prevention," Beltran said.
Meanwhile, the BFP has planned activities in Pagbilao to commemorate the month of fire prevention in March.
According to Atty. Randy Baconawa, chief of BFP Pagbilao, one of the activities planned is the "Barangay Fire Olympics," which will take place on March 29 at the Pagbilao Central Elementary School Playground.
In addition, on March 24, students from Pagbilao's senior high schools will compete in the junior fire marshal competition.
"We also held a BFP-Pagbilao motorcade that started in Pagbilao and went to Candelaria, as well as an art and drawing contest attended by elementary school students that aims to increase fire prevention knowledge among our countrymen here in Pagbilao," Baconawa said.
The theme for National Fire Prevention Month this month is "Sa Pag-iwas sa Sunog, Hindi ka Nag-iisa!.
