LUCENA CITY - During the pandemic, local hospitals such as Quezon Medical Center Compound (QMC) expanded their facilities to handle COVID-19 patients; now that infection and mortality rates has dropped, these units will house the out-patient departments.
One of these is the 24-bed Modular Intensive Care Unit, which was inaugurated and personally attended by Cong David Suarez of Quezon's second district at the QMC in Lucena City on February 24, 2023.
In a statement, Suarez said that the additional building is one of his top priorities in order to meet the increasing number of people in the province and neighboring province who need immediate medical attention.
‘’So part po ng Advocacy ng National Government para maitayo ang mga isolated Covid ward but with good news na ibinahagi sa atin kanina less than 1% nalang ang positivity sa ating lalawigan at natutuwa naman ako although hindi sya magagamit bilang isolation ward it will use as out-patient department para sa mga pasente ng Quezon Medical Center.’’ Suarez said.
He also said that it is part of the program of Alona Partylist Representative Congw. Anna Villaraza-Suarez in response to the national government's Covid response program.
The 25 million pesos used to build it came through Suarez from the national government, and only a few people in the country are said to have the budget for this facility.
Meanwhile, QMC Chief of Hospital Dr. Juan Eugenio Fidel Villanueva explained that the out-patient should use the building because QMC has almost no COVID-19 patients and is undergoing renovations.
“Atlest magagamit pa rin sya, nakita naman natin maganda maayos at kompleto na rin sa mga gamit, ang ibang mga gamit in fact inilipat sa Quezon medical Center.” he said.
When QMC officials inaugurates and turnover of the said facility, the province of Quezon had 0 COVID, and the province's positivity rate was only 1%.
