LUCENA CITY - In response to the devastating impacts that the pandemic has had on the entire province of Quezon, its Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) is currently working on developing a resilient code that will give its tourism industry greater authority.

John Joseph Aquivido, Quezon 3rd District board member, has said that he is pushing for a tourism, culture, and arts code. This code will establish the rules and guidelines for tourism throughout the province.

"There is no question that our province has a lot of potential to be the next big thing in tourism; however, the province needs to make sure that there is a comprehensive tourism ordinance in place that will standardize all matters related to the tourism, culture, and arts industries," said Aquivido.

Aquivido believes that a comprehensive tourism ordinance will not only attract more tourists to the province but also ensure that the tourism industry is sustainable and benefits the local communities. He also said that the code will put the protection of Quezon's cultural heritage and natural resources at the top of its list of priorities.

“This will help the province's economy and give its people more job opportunities. The proposed legislation aims to create a tourism code that will help promote and develop the tourism industry in Quezon while also ensuring the safety and well-being of tourists and locals alike,” he said.

He also thinks that the tourism code will help with local registration and business rules for businesses that cater to tourists.

The code will also tell people how to do tourism in a way that protects the environment and has the fewest negative effects on local communities. This will make sure that tourism in Quezon is not only profitable but also good for everyone and does not harm the environment.

He also said that through the ordinance, the implementation of policies will be smooth.

"Old, outdated, duplicate, and contradictory tourism policies will be replaced with a systematic, evidence-based, and up-to-date policy based on good governance," said Aquivido.

The tourism committee in Aquivido is looking at the proposal for the province's tourism code right now. In this case, people from the Provincial Tourism Office will be invited to the next regular meeting of the Provincial Council to give a report that will be used to make the tourism code. The arts will also be thoroughly researched and put up for public hearings.
