In 2015, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO-UN) listed carrots as fifth among the top 27 primary vegetable products. In addition, according to the Bureau of Agricultural Research, it is one of the most important vegetables commonly grown in the Philippine highlands. The use of carrots as an alternative to squash, is ideal, since both are nutritionally adequate in terms of vitamins, minerals and dietary fiber.

With the aim to improve the nutritional status of the Filipino population, in particular those nutritionally-at-risk, the DOST-FNRI promotes the commercial production and distribution of their Enhanced Nutribun technology in a series of technology transfer training.

nhanced Nutribun was also included in the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Memorandum Circular No. 12 Series of 2020, known as the Guidelines in the Implementation of the Supplementary Feeding Program During the Community Quarantine Period or Other Similar Emergencies.

Malou's Biscuits and Pasalubong Miguel Rafael Gabriel (MRG) Food Products , SIR EZER Bakery & Variety and Maestra Panaderia belong to the Batch 7 of trainees. On Day 1, Ms. Filipiniana Bragas, SRS I, DOST- FNRI, spearheaded the General Orientation among Technology adaptors. Topics discussed were 5’S, Food Safety, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

The first virtual ceremonial signing of Technology Licensing Agreement (TLA) was also witnessed during the general orientation. On the second day, participants were primed on the preparation of shredded carrot and Enhanced Nutribun with the given formulation. It was facilitated by Ms. Carissa Saldaña, Science Research Specialist I of DOST-FNRI. All technology adaptors successfully produced ENCV at the end of the training

They expressed their appreciation to the DOST-FNRI and DOST PSTO-Cavite for the support and opportunity given to them as one of the licensees of ENCV. They are also a technology licensees of Enhanced Nutribun Squash Variant (ENSV) and Enhanced Nutribun Sweet Potato Variant (ENSPV) in the Province of Cavite. Meanwhile, Maestra Panaderia and MRG Food Products are both beneficiaries of Small Enterprises Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) in 2021.
