SAMPALOC, Quezon - The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), in partnership with the local government, recently facilitated economic assistance to this town through the Tulong Panghanabuhay para Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers program (TUPAD).
The TUPAD orientation is led by Mayor Gelo Devanadera, Vice Mayor Teresita Villeno, and Sangguniang members, and the worker-beneficiaries include vendors, tailors, school maintenance, hair stylists, barbers, and cobblers.
The program aims to offer transient employment to COVID-19 pandemic-affected marginalized workers. The people who get help will get paid every day for doing things like cleaning and fixing up public spaces.
The TUPAD program also aims to provide temporary employment to those who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic. The beneficiaries were selected through a careful process with the help of local officials and community staff.
With the help of the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in Sampaloc and the Community Affairs staff, 384 people from different barangays who will benefit from this project came to hear about how it works.
This is part of the agency's program to assist poor people who have lost their jobs as a result of the country's recent pandemic.
TUPAD beneficiaries were carefully selected with the assistance of Mayor Gelo Devanadera, PESO Sampaloc, and Community Affairs staff.
It was the Agri Partylist that initiated contact with the DOLE office in order to make this happen.
TUPAD is a community-based package of assistance that provides work for displaced workers, underemployed individuals, and seasonal workers for 10 days, or no more than 30 days, depending on the job.
