MACALELON, Quezon - To increase the productivity and income of the town's coconut farmers and millers, they were given the necessary tools and equipment.
The Philippine Coconut Authority's (PCA) Department of Agriculture IV-Calabarzon (DA-4A) and Coconut Farmers Industry Development Plan (CFIDP) programs provided the intervention in the amount of P2,083,750.00.
Agricultural Program Coordinating Officer of Quezon, Eduardo Lalas, said this initiative is part of the government's efforts to support agriculture and promote sustainable livelihoods in rural areas.
He also said it aims to provide support to coconut farmers in Quezon by providing them with seedlings and fertilizers. This will help increase their yield and income, which in turn will contribute to the overall development of the region.
The Sahaman ng Industriya ng Cacao na Pangkabuhayan (SICAP)-Macalelon received one cacao bean storage, fermentation facility, open source pump irrigation system, and greenhouse type solar dryer.
These facilities and equipment will enable the farmers to properly store and process their cacao beans, ensuring higher quality products. This will also allow them to access larger markets and increase their profits, leading to a more sustainable livelihood for the farmers and their families.
Meanwhile, Macalelon cacao and coconut farmers received 80 bags of controlled fertilizer and 29 pruning shears.
