CABUYAO, Laguna - To protect children from measles, rubella, and polio, the Department of Health Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) in Calabarzon started the Chikiting Ligtas MR-OPV SIA at Cabuyao Athletics Basic School (CABS), Cabuyao City, Laguna, on April 25.
The campaign's aim is to immunize 95% of children aged 0 to 59 months across the country. It is part of the DOH's efforts to eliminate measles, rubella, and polio by 2023 and 2024, respectively.
Through this campaign, the DOH-CHD hopes to achieve herd immunity, which will aid in the prevention of future outbreaks of these diseases.
Dr. Gloria Balboa, the DOH-HPIDT Assistant Secretary, urged parents to bring their kids to their neighborhood health center for vaccinations.
According to DOH IV-A data from January 1 to April 15, there were 62 cases of measles and rubella in CALABARZON, with 16 of them occurring in Laguna. The number is significantly higher than the 30 cases recorded in the region in 2022.
Governor Ramil Hernandez stated that having a common direction in the implementation of health programs will continue to be a priority for the provincial government, in collaboration with the cities and municipalities in Laguna.
