TAYTAY, Rizal - A total of 30 employees from different work units of Megawide Construction Corporation successfully finished the learning session recently on Safe Spaces Act and Mental Health Law held at their Taytay Industrial Plant in Rizal province.
This activity is an initiative of the Health and Safety, and HR Training Departments of Megawide that aims to provide training and learning programs on safety and health awareness to their workers and employees. In addition, Megawide wants to improve their employees' perception of their mental health and give importance to themselves as part of their safety and health program in the company.
Nikka Ella Perez, Learning and Development Specialist of Megawide, further elaborated the company’s decision in partnering with DOLE to organize a learning session for their employees.
“…Ito pong training na ito ay para mag-raise ng awareness sa mga empleyado about mental health kasi nga naging [isa ang mental health sa mga] issues noong pandemic. So, ngayon po, isa po siya sa naging mitigating measures ng [Megawide] para po matulungan and ma-address iyong mga mental health concerns ng mga empleyado,” Perez explained.
Labor Inspector Erwin Rommel De Jesus discussed the Mental Health Law by introducing the concept of mental health and giving a national situationer to the participants. He said that currently, the government strives to improve the Mental Health Law implementation in the country and plans to localize mental health awareness by training the barangay social and health workers in the community.
“Sa ngayon, nilalayon ng gobyerno na palawakin ang mental health awareness sa bansa. Nais po ng ating gobyerno na i-localize ang implementation sa pagbibigay ng training sa ating mga barangay social and health workers,” De Jesus explained.
Marlon Millare, a Warehouse Aide of Megawide and one of the training participants, shared some of his insights and lessons he picked up after the training.
“Ang natutunan ko po sa seminar na ito ay kung papaano po ma-relieve ang stress sa trabaho. Akin din pong natutunan kung paano magtrabaho nang maayos na nakatutulong sa kumpanya at sa sarili sa pamamagitan ng pag-aalaga na rin sa mental health,” Millare said.
When asked about their usual stressors in the company, Millare said that the number one stressor is the hot climate but praised the company for giving the correct benefits and compensation to them.
“Sa trabaho, wala naman po. Pero iyon po talagang init ng panahon [ang nakakastress]. Sa benefits, sa sahod, okay naman po,” Millare added.
Megawide thanked the Department in accommodating their invitation to become resource speakers on the activity.
“Kami po ay nagpapasalamat kay DOLE kasi mas na-broaden po ang aming knowledge pagdating sa mental health. So nalaman po namin iyong importansya niya hindi lamang po sa sarili namin kundi pati na rin po sa welfare and well-being po namin kapag kami ay nasa trabaho,” Perez added.
On the other hand, Charmaine Baisa, Labor and Employment Officer III, explained the Safe Spaces Act giving the participants an understanding of the difference among the concepts of sex, gender identity, and expression. Furthermore, she highlighted that the new law, RA 11313, supplements the Anti-Sexual Harassment Law.
Recently, DOLE-Rizal has been receiving requests from different companies for the conduct of labor and employment education services to both formal and informal sectors. Rizal Provincial Office ensures to continue providing Labor and Employment Education Services (LEES) to both private and informal sectors regardless of mode of delivery (online or face-to-face). LEES is one of the programs of the Department that aims to disseminate labor-related information to its target clientele as part of its mandates. (DOLERPO)
