ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal — The Llaño Farmers’ Multipurpose Cooperative (LFMPC), located in Jalajala town, recently opened a dairy center that sells locally-sourced carabao milk products and byproducts.
Called “Dairy Box,” the facility offers flavored milk and other dairy-based products such as pastillas, milk-o-gel, yema, and yogurt which are all made with fresh carabao milk.
The Dairy Box made possible through a multi-agency convergence initiated by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) is expected to provide additional income for the farmers’ cooperative and boost the town’s agritourism.
Among the offices that joined forces to put the initiative to fruition are the Philippine Carabao Center, University of the Philippines – Los Baños, Department of Agriculture, Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Trade and Industry, and the Department of Science and Technology. The project was funded by the Office of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Food, and Agrarian Reform.
According to DAR-Rizal, the cooperative also received processing equipment, a generator, and 45 crossbred carabaos for their production aside from the fully-furnished store. (GG/PIA-Rizal with reports from DAR-Rizal)
