BATANGAS CITY - Mayor Beverley Dimacuha and Batangas 5th District Representative Marvey Marino presided over the opening ceremonies of the Mayor's Cup 2023 at the Batangas City Sports Coliseum, which were attended by players and supporters from the 52 participating barangays.

The Mayor's Cup 2023 is a sports tournament designed to promote unity and sportsmanship among Batangas City's barangays. The event includes a variety of sports, including basketball, volleyball, and football.

The Mayor's Cup is being held for the 17th year and for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is a highly anticipated annual event that brings together athletes from different schools and communities. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, organizers have taken the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of all participants and spectators.

The league's goal is to focus on and develop the community development of Batangenyo players.

The game started with a parade from Plaza Mabini to the venue, where the competing teams were present.

Basketball Under-22 features 43 teams divided into six brackets, according to local youth development officer Nelbert Magbanua.

"The top two teams from each bracket will compete in the quarterfinals, which will be divided into two brackets, with the top two teams advancing to the semifinals. The winner of the crossover semi-finals will compete for the Mayor's Cup 2023 championship," Magbanua said.

The Under-13 tournament featured seven teams.

Men's volleyball will feature 26 teams, while women's volleyball will feature 13 teams.

Aside from basketball and volleyball, the Mayor's Cup also includes table tennis, softball, and baseball.

Meanwhile, the UB Pep Squad took first place in the cheerdance competition, while Barangay Bolbok took first place in the bench cheering competition.

Daisy Amorado of Balagtas was named the League's Best Muse, and she nominated Ms. Instaglam Jenel Margaret Macatangay of Sta. Rita Karsada.

They were given a trophy as well as a cash prize.

The games will be held on different barangays' covered courts at the same time.
