VICTORIA, Laguna - As part of the activities planned for National Women's Month in 2023, several women in the town provided free pap smears and visual inspections with acetic acid (VIA).
The Rural Health Unit Victoria (RHU Victoria) led the program, which encourages sexually active women aged 18–45 to get tested for cervical infection and early symptoms of cervical cancer.
According to Catherine Bautista Kampitan, Nurse II of the Provincial Population Office Clinical Services, it is vital for women to have a Pap smear and VIA once a year in order to receive proper reproductive health information and proper genital care in order to prevent diseases such as cervical cancer.
Because women were unable to get tested during the pandemic, she believes that providing free Pap smears and VIAs is timely.
RHU Victoria and the office of Mayor Dwight Kampitan, MD, in collaboration with the Provincial Population Office, Clinical Services, are providing free health services.
According to the PPO, up to 80 women have been tested, and the free service will continue as long as there is a need for it. Under the direction of its publisher and owner, Ma. Nimfa Estrellado, the Sentinel Times launched a free campus journalism training program in 2019 at Tayabas West Central School II, Brgy. Opias in Tayabas City.
