BAY, Laguna - Free land and affordable housing were provided to the residents of this town in the Philippines as part of an initiative to address the shortage of affordable housing options for low-income families, particularly those who live in informal settlements. This is a reference to the land donations made by both the Philippines' government and private organizations to aid in the construction of these housing projects.
In Brgy. Tongue, Bay, Laguna, a groundbreaking ceremony and the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding for the Balai Bayeos or the "Libreng Lupa, Murang Pabahay Program" of the Bay Local Government took place recently.
Mayor Jose Padrid has announced that up to 250 parcels of land will be donated to needy job-order government employees and illegal settlers in order to assist these individuals in providing for their families.
“Bilang isang ama, batid ko po ang pangangailangan ng isang pamilya [sa] isang bahay na masisilungan at higit sa lahat ay isang tahanan kung saan nila bububuin at aabutin ang kanilang mga pangarap,” said Padrid.
The parcels of land will be distributed fairly among the qualified recipients, and the local government will provide assistance in building their homes. This initiative aims to alleviate poverty and provide better living conditions for those who have been struggling to make ends meet.
In addition, it is anticipated that there will be a community center, a plant nursery, a basketball court, a transportation terminal, and a Super Health Center that is outfitted with contemporary medical equipment in the area of Balai Bayeos.
The Local Government Unit (LGU) also has plans to start giving away free housing within the next few years to people who are unable to pay their housing loans.
The report indicates that the construction of the housing units is scheduled to start sometime during this calendar year.
