LIPA CITY, Batangas - An exhibit showcasing Filipino-Chinese culture was opened at SM City Batangas on April 30 , 2023.
The exhibit features various artifacts, artworks, and traditional costumes that highlight the rich history and cultural exchange between the Philippines and China.
The exhibit aims to promote cultural awareness and appreciation among Filipinos, as well as strengthen the bond between the two countries.
This is the 45th Chan Lim Family of Artists and Students' exhibit, which features 180 artworks created by 53 artists , including the Chan Lim patriarch and his children. It showcases traditional Chinese brush painting techniques as well as modern interpretations of the art form, providing a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of China.
Visitors can also enjoy cultural performances and participate in workshops to learn more about the fusion of Filipino and Chinese traditions.
It was in 1995 when the Chan Lim Family first staged their exhibit at SM Megamall, and since then it has been regularly held at SM Supermalls in different parts of the country.
According to Alex Chan Lim, most of the artists are from their family, while others are students at their art school.
He said the aforementioned exhibit is different because the art works are not on paper or canvas; they are on fans and lanterns with light.
The artworks, he said, showed the unique and rich culture and art of Filipinos and Chinese.
Led by SM City Batangas Mall Manager Gemina Buenaflor, Asst. Mall Manager Bernard Coronel, SM Supermalls Representatives Ritzgerald Gonzales and Juan Marius Cortez, and Councilor Zester Hernandez, at the ribbon cutting ceremony that signaled the formal opening of the exhibit.
There was also an art workshop where artists taught local journalists and some students in the city drawing techniques. The Chan Lim exhibit will last until May 18.
