INFANTA, Quezon - A recent training on lettuce care and cultivation using hydroponic technology was held here.
The training aimed to equip the participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to grow lettuce using hydroponics, which is a soilless method of growing plants that uses water and nutrients instead.
The participants were taught how to properly maintain the hydroponic system and ensure that the plants receive adequate lighting and ventilation.
This is the modern way of planting, where there is no need to till the land to grow plants.
Plants are grown and cared for using water-based mineral nutrient solutions that are aqueous solvents.
About 20 participants from different barangays attended the training, including the Sangguniang Kabataan Chairman, Barangay Kagawad, Youth Organization members, teachers, and some farmers.
According to the Office of the Village Agriculturist, the seminar also aims to teach young people to start with a simple income or become agripreneurs and increase vegetable production in the town of Infanta.
Even in a small space, this technology can be used to grow vegetables and fruits, providing a sustainable source of income for families. The seminar covered topics such as proper soil preparation, pest management, and marketing strategies for agricultural products.
A member of the Municipal Agriculture Office, along with Camilo Rivera, a farmer practitioner who has been growing lettuce for a long time, became a trainer here.
Meanwhile, the participants received a starter kit containing lettuce seeds, a seedling tray, UV plastic, a Styro Cup, coco peat, foam, and SNAP Solution that they can use to get started.
