CALAMBA, Laguna - Lactation, Attachment, Training, Counseling, and Help (LATCH) of Los Baños empowers fellow mothers and their families to breastfeed by listening to them, affirming their truths, and teaching them current information and evidence-based practice since 2016.
LATCH recently collaborated with the Provincial Government of Laguna, the Provincial Nutrition Action Office, and the Bay Municipal Action Office, on the initiative of Congresswoman Ruth Mariano-Hernandez, to hold the "Buntis at Padede Nanay Assembly" on the theme of Malasakit kay Nanay: Buntis and Padede Nanay Activity.
The assembly aimed to provide support and information to pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, including the importance of proper nutrition and the benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and child. The event also featured talks from experts in maternal and child health, as well as a breastfeeding demonstration.
The organization emphasized the importance of breastfeeding in providing essential nutrients and antibodies to infants, reducing the risk of illnesses, and promoting bonding between mother and child. They also provided resources and support for mothers who may face challenges with breastfeeding.
“Our dream is for everyone to unite in support of breastfeeding, not just a lifestyle choice but a public health issue with huge economic value. Breastfeeding has numerous benefits for both the mother and the child, including reducing the risk of illnesses and diseases. By promoting and supporting breastfeeding, we can improve public health outcomes and save on healthcare costs in the long run.” LATCH said.
During the assembly, they gave 125 lactating mothers iron-fortified rice as well as pregnancy and lactation kits to take home with them. This is an important step in providing care and assistance to nursing mothers and their infants.
In addition, the campus of the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) is home to the Laguna Human Milk Bank, which is a facility that accepts donations of breast milk for the purpose of providing it to infants who are in need of it.
