BATANGAS CITY - Members of the Librarians Association of Batangas (LAB) attended a seminar titled "Librarians and Teachers' Vital Role as Promoters of Information Literacy," which was held at the Function Hall of the Colegio ng Lungsod ng Batangas (CLB) on May 19, 2023.
Its goal is to recognize the vital role they play in the dissemination and research of various types of information, as well as to provide them with the skills and knowledge they need to effectively promote information literacy among their students and patrons.
The event also aims to assist librarians in the province in keeping up with modern technology, such as the use of the internet as the primary form of research.
The seminar featured speakers who shared their knowledge on topics such as evaluating information sources, using technology to improve research skills, and designing effective information literacy programs.
Attendees were also given the opportunity to participate in workshops and group discussions to further their understanding of the importance of information literacy in today's digital age.
LAB President Alexander Lunar said the seminar is important because it will teach them how to use internet resources effectively.
"This also includes strengthening our education program and aims to further expand the knowledge of our teacher-librarians so that they can be more effective in providing quality education to our students", said Lunar.
Teacher Librarian Carlo Zebedee Gualvez was the guest speaker, where he discussed Countering Information Disorder: Teachers and Librarians as Agents and Information Literacy and the Community Practice of Libraries towards a Proposed Library and Information Literacy program.
Mila Silang, the head of the Batangas City Public Library and Information Center, reported on the best practices and initiatives they are putting in place that other province-wide libraries and library hubs can adopt.
