PEREZ, Quezon - The local government of Perez, Quezon, is bolstering the anti-illegal fishing campaign by providing patrol boats to the Bantay Dagat group in their town.
The boat of Bantay Dagat was recently inaugurated as part of this effort, and it is expected to help the group in their efforts to monitor and protect the waters in their area from illegal fishing activities. This initiative is also aimed at promoting sustainable fishing practices and protecting the marine ecosystem.
Mayor Charizze Marie Escalona, who led the inauguration and blessing of the new fiberglass and newly renovated patrol boats, said the boat of Bantay Dagat will serve as a vital tool for monitoring and protecting the coastal waters of Perez, Quezon.
Its inauguration marks a significant step towards preserving the marine ecosystem and ensuring the sustainability of the fishing industry in the area.
The Bantay Dagat boat is equipped with modern technology that will aid in detecting illegal fishing activities and enforcing marine laws. This will also encourage the community to participate in conservation efforts and promote responsible fishing practices.
It was attended by members of the Sangguniang Bayan, local government department heads, and staff.
Escalona said it is one of their priorities to have motor boats that are a big help in the patrolling of the marine guards.
During the meeting, she also discussed the importance of educating the community on sustainable fishing methods and the consequences of illegal fishing. Escalona emphasized that their goal is to preserve the marine ecosystem for future generations.
Aside from the anti-illegal fishing campaign, patrol boats can also be involved in rescue operations and disaster preparedness.
This holistic approach to marine conservation not only benefits the environment but also supports the livelihoods of local fishermen. By promoting sustainable fishing practices, the community can continue to rely on the ocean as a source of food and income for years to come.
