Sentinel Times in its 7th year, gets a boost from reputable broadcasters and journalists
Journofest: Journalism Summit 2023

LUCENA CITY - Belinda Otordoz, Paul Eric Roca, Renato Dilan, Angelo Amisola, Joy Gabrido, Zhander Cayabyab, and Earlo Bringas are on the list of names on the Sentinel Times' reputable speaker lineup for its anticipated free journalism webinar of the year, which will be hosted by Shai Garcia.

With PIA Quezon Officer Joselito Giron delivering an inspirational message, the Sentinel Times is off to a great start this year.

Nimfa Estrellado, the publisher of the Sentinel Times, is in charge of organizing the event and has been working hard to plan it.

She has also been collaborating with local businesses and community leaders to ensure the success of the event and its positive impact on the community. The event promises to be a great opportunity for networking and promoting local businesses.

The Sentinel Times is a privately owned news and media company that operates in the province of Quezon and distributes the most recent weekly news across a variety of platforms for its various publications.

Aside from the typical tasks of a media company, they strive to help the community by providing excellent service, supporting local businesses, providing a platform for new writers, and giving victims a voice.

"The last time we had free campus journalism training was in 2019, and we're still hearing good things about it," Estrellado said. "We wanted to bring the event back to different parts of the Philippines, try something new, and bring a millennial-friendly narrative."

Estrellado also says that journalism is a necessary component of freedom and that true journalism should be protected and widely shared, which is why she is so pleased and touched by the level of cooperation, support, and advice that she and her partner organization are receiving.

"We are very fortunate to have reputable journalists, television, and radio personalities from the country's largest national newspaper and radio station, The Manila Times, RMN, and NET25, to guide our participants interested in journalism for the Sentinel Times Journalism Summit," Estrellado said.

Sentinel Times' free online journalism training and workshops will equip and empower participants to improve their journalistic abilities, learn more about journalism, or prepare to pursue a journalism-related course or career.

Throughout the program, they will also be able to deeply understand the principles of journalism and media ethics, identify sources, develop story ideas, and maximize the benefits of social media and other media platforms for newspapers, magazines, television, or radio.

The free online training and workshops for journalism will become a reality thanks to the assistance provided by the organizations that it partners with and sponsors.

"I have always dreamed of becoming a broadcaster," said Myleen Rosales-Buagas, a teacher from Mulanay, Quezon.

Raffy Granado is both excited and surprised by the opportunity. “I'm a teacher. I want to join the conference to refresh my knowledge and learn more about editorial cartooning. Thank you.” Teacher Raffy said.

Estrellado emphasized that aside from the other available modes of learning, she understands the importance of helping to reach more learners and reiterated the importance of the support of the local government and external partners in the success of the program.

"We may be looking at a future journalist here. Apart from online learning, which we are pursuing as a very effective channel for instruction and education." Estrellado added.

Anyone interested in enhancing their journalistic skills, expanding their knowledge of journalism, or getting themselves ready to pursue a course of study or career path related to journalism is welcome to participate in this summit.

Registration is now open and is completely free of charge. There will also be fantastic performances and engaging games in which attendees can participate and compete for big prizes.

Participation in the online activities will be exclusive to registered participants.
