LUCENA CITY, Quezon - The Metro Excellence Leadership Awards (MELA) Hinirang ng Southern Tagalog 2023, a national developing and progressive award-giving body, has presented chief executive officer (CEO) and publisher Ma. Nimfa Estrellado with Outstanding Female Journalist and Publisher and Inspiring Youth Advocate of the Year. The award is given annually to recognize and celebrate outstanding individual and company achievements.

Estrellado was presented the award during MELA's second award ceremony at the Queen Margarette Hotel, Brgy. Domoit, Lucena City. April 22, 2023 Hotel. The event has provided tri-media advertising mileage, aired on different regional TV stations and an internet TV channel (Facebook page), and been published on official print advertising material in "FRONTAGE Lifestyle Magazine".

According to Edzel Eroles, the President of Frontpage (FEMS) awardee was chosen for the distinguished award for their excellence, reputation, experience, integrity, quality, and customers or clients’ trust and belief. Eroles explained, “Excellence is never an accident. It is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, and intelligent execution.”

Throughout Estrellado's entire career—20 years as a journalist and 7 years as a newspaper publisher—Estrellado has been influential in advancing local journalism that supports the media industry, such as organizing free online and onsite journalism training and workshops that will equip and empower participants to improve their journalistic abilities, learn more about journalism, or prepare to pursue a journalism-related course or career.

"The last time we had free campus journalism training was in 2019, and we're still hearing good things about it," Estrellado said. "We wanted to bring the event back to different parts of the Philippines, try something new, and bring a millennial-friendly narrative, so right now we are also organizing a journalism summit on May 26–27, 2023 via Zoom Meeting dubbed "Journofest: Journalism Summit 2023,” with the theme, “Modern Day Journalism: Online Policy Communication And Getting Away From The Norms. ”

She is also an ardent supporter of providing citizens with information and encouraging them to actively participate in their government, so on April 18, 2022, before the election, she organized a mayoralty and congressional candidate forum dubbed Quezon Balitaktakan, in collaboration with the national newspaper the Manila Times and other nonpartisan organizations.

Quezon Balitaktakan is a virtual forum that educates the public, motivates voters to vote, allows them to hear the perspectives of candidates in their respective cities, and assists them in making an informed choice on their ballots.

Sentinel Times Corporate Social Responsibility is also helping the community; on December 21, 2019, in Tayabas City, they held an outreach program for Aeta children under the theme "Give their Christmas Outreach Program a Shine."

The young CEO lady has also been an outspoken supporter of the Quezon Alliance for Women's Support and Empowerment Advocate Group, which seeks to uplift and empower women in their personal and professional lives. By promoting such initiatives, she hopes to foster a more inclusive and equitable society in which everyone has an equal chance of success.

Estrellado said the award for achievement is also a recognition of others’ support for her and the Sentinel Times.

“The Sentinel Times is a privately owned news and media company that operates in the province of Quezon and distributes the most recent weekly news across a variety of platforms for its various publications. Aside from the typical tasks of a media company, we strive to help the community by providing excellent service, supporting local businesses, providing a platform for new writers, and giving victims a voice. It is with great honor that MELA presents this award to recognize the significant contributions that Sentinel Times has made for the community.” she said.

She also thanks everyone who helped make this victory possible and who made her today, "Thank God for this award, to my family, my team, my supporters, and everyone who helped on my journey. I am grateful for your support and the opportunity to serve you. This one is for you all. To receive the Outstanding Female Journalist and Publisher and Inspiring Youth Advocate of the Year awards from MELA today is truly an honor and a humbling experience. Thank you for recognizing the work I have done as not only a media practitioner for the Sentinel Times but also as an advocate for the community," she said.

She also stated that, while winning an award shows that hard work pays off, it does not mean that your battle is over. Learning is a continuous process. Any job necessitates continuous improvement; you will always be on the lookout for new ways to improve your craft.

MELA CEO and Chairman Artchie Solitano, said the second MELA Hinirang ng Southern Tagalog 2023 symbolized and exemplified excellence in all facets of leadership prowess to give distinction and recognition to deserving individuals and companies.

"Their great strengths are the partnerships they forge between marketing companies, outstanding individuals, and the wider community. These partnerships enable them to build on the strengths of tradition and performance and to live out our values and our commitment to the provision of world class leaders in their chosen fields: business, individuals, politics, charitable entities, fashion, media, entertainment, and many others. They are delighted to be able to share our goal with you and provide an opportunity for you to be part of the Metro Excellence Leadership Awards family this year." he said.

Meanwhile, according to Darwin Avila, marketing head of MELA Hinirang ng Southern Tagalog 2023 in Quezon Province, a new award giving body in Southern Tagalog will be established soon to recognize outstanding individuals and organizations in various fields in the region.

Other people or companies who did not receive awards on MELA will have the opportunity to be recognized for their contributions to the development and advancement of Southern Tagalog through this award-giving body. It is expected to boost the morale of individuals and organizations in the region and encourage them to continue their efforts toward growth and development.

"This award giving body aims to promote excellence and inspire more people to contribute to the development of Southern Tagalog. It will also serve as a platform to showcase the region's talents and achievements." he said.
