BATANGAS CITY - The bill seeking to penalize discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression or SOGIE Bill has been a contentious issue, with some arguing that it goes against their religious beliefs. However, others argue that everyone should be protected from discrimination regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
The Philippines for Jesus Movement (PJM) Batangas Chapter, together with the God Bless Batangas Ministerial Fellowship and other multi-sectoral and inter-faith organizations, shared their position regarding the SOGIE Bill in a meeting held on May 8, 2023, at the Salvador Laurel Session Hall-Annex, Apolinario Mabini Legislative Bldg., Capitol Site, Batangas City.
The group emphasized the importance of upholding biblical principles and protecting the rights of individuals to practice their faith without discrimination.
They expressed their concern about the potential negative impact of the SOGIE Bill on religious freedom and traditional family values.
They also highlighted the need for a thorough review of the bill to ensure that it does not infringe on the rights of others or undermine traditional family values.
The said meeting was attended by members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan ng Batangas, who actively discussed it with PJM Chairperson, Rev. Melquiades Asi, and God Bless Batangas head, Bishop Romeo Gejon.
Carlo Roman Rosales, the Chairperson of the Committee on LGBTQIA+ and Gender Equality, and Claudette Ambida, a Senior Board Member from the 5th District, led the gathering.
