ANTIPOLO, Rizal - To commemorate Rizal Province's centennial 122nd founding anniversary, government employees and volunteers from across the province participated in a massive clean-up drive and tree-planting activities.

The event was organized by the provincial government of Rizal and was joined by representatives from the Local Government Unit, Rizal Police Provincial Office, Bureau of Fire Protection, Coast Guard, youth, volunteers, and other government agencies.

During the tree planting activity, it is estimated that around 4,000 seedlings were planted across the province.

The aforementioned eco-activities are part of the Provincial Government's YES to Green program and Oplan BUSILAK (Live Sapa, Rivers, Lakes, and Oceans), where they are appropriate for the province's day celebration this year with the theme: Rizal: Maunlad na Lalawigan, Marangal na Mamamayan, Malinis na Kapaligiran.

It's a joint effort between the DENR (the Department of Environment and Natural Resources) and other concerned agencies.

From the proclamation of Philippine Independence on June 12, 1898, in Kawit, Cavite, to the end of the First Republic of the Philippines on March 23, 1901, in Palanan, Isabela, this annual celebration seeks to highlight the events and realities that gave birth to the Filipino nation.

It aims to collect stories of revolutionary struggle from the Philippines' regions and provinces and include them in the national narrative of our independence and nationhood.

It focuses on the freedom that our forefathers fought for and dreamed of for the country, and this important history is what we should remember and appreciate.

The display of the spirit and heart of the Heroic Barasenyo, who is ready to stand up and face any challenge or event in society, is a feature of the historical parade during the province's celebration.

Along with the current independence of the Philippines comes the display of a portion of their history as a province and a country through parade floats that reflect important stages in the history of the Philippines. A number of national parks and protected areas can also be found in the province.
