TAGKAWAYAN, Quezon - The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Quezon II formally launched the Community-Managed Potable Water Supply Sanitation and Hygiene (CP-WASH) Project in Brgy. Bamban, Tagkawayan, Quezon last June 5, 2023.

The CPWASH Project is an innovative approach by the department, in collaboration with Local Government Units (LGUs), to provide safe, clean, and accessible water for the beneficiaries of the agrarian reform program.

For this year, Mabaang Bamban Didiclim Farmers’ Association Inc. (MBDFA), an organization assisted by DAR Quezon II from the said Municipality will be the recipient of the CP-WASH Project. It is expected that more than 80 Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries and residents of Brgy. Bamban will benefit from this project.

Present during the launching and signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) is Engr. Renato A. Jaca, CARPO of PBDD and MARPO Ma. Rowena B. Bilog from DAR Quezon II, Municipal Vice Mayor Danilo L. Liwanag and Executive Assistant Michael Glenn Tolentino of Tagkawayan LGU. In addition, Ms. Remedios Lubay, President of MBDFA and Hon Severino An, Chairperson of Brgy. Bamban also were in attendance.

The total project cost is estimated to be Php 135,000.00 from which the DAR will provide the logistical and technical skills training for the para-engineers while Barangay LGU and MBDFA shall contribute as well with manpower and labor. Furthermore, the MLGU oversees the provision of the needed materials and support to replicate the project to other areas that have issues concerning potable water supply.

In a message, CARPO Jaca, representing OIC-PARPO II Ma. Gemma A. Esguerra, stresses the impact of CPWASH in Quezon II. “Kahit maliit ang CPWASH Project, malaki naman ang epekto nito sa komunidad lalo na sa kalusugan nga mga mamayan.” he said during the program.

Meanwhile, Vice Mayor Liwanag, on behalf of Mayor Luis Oscar T. Eleazar and Tagkawayan LGU, gives his immense gratitude to DAR for this initiative. He also mentioned that this project also falls under the priorities of the municipality which is water security.

Based on the buy-in session and site validation, the identified Water Sanitation Facilities were three (3) Biosand Filters and three (3) Iron-Removal filters. These WATSAN facilities will be installed at Sitio Mabaang, Brgy. Bamban this coming July 2023.

To date, this launch marks the 10th CPWASH project that DAR Quezon II has implemented under its jurisdiction since 2013. It is estimated that 500 ARBs across the provincial bailiwick have benefited from this project.
