BATANGAS CITY— A state-of-the-art information and communication technology (ICT) center, the first of its kind in the country, was recently opened here.

Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) formally inaugurated the first Tech4ED (Technology for Education to Gain Employment, Train Entrepreneurs towards Economic Development) Laboratory in Batangas City at DICT Compound Telecomm Road, Kumintang Ibaba, Batangas City.

In an interview with DICT Undersecretary Paulo Mercado, he stated that one of DICT's mandates is to provide training not only to the youth but to everyone in order for them to learn the technologies that are coming to the country.

“The mandate of DICT is not only focused on providing the internet, e-governance, and others but also includes training people to use technologies properly. That's why we shouldn't be afraid of things we haven't learned yet because technology can provide great comfort," said Mercado.

Cheryl Ortega, the DICT 4A Regional Director, explained that the goal of Tech4ED is to give the people of Batangueo more opportunities for learning, skill development, and dedication to a better quality of life.

She noted that the timing of the building's opening was fortunate given that June is National Information and Communications Technology Month, which this year has the theme "Connecting Communities, Enriching Lives, and Forging a Digital Future for the Philippines."

Mayor Beverley Dimacuha, on the other hand, expressed her joy at the opening of this facility and gave her support for it because of the provision of a higher level of training that will also provide proper employment to the Batangueños.

DICT 4A is partnering with TESDA Batangas and the Asian Tech Hub Academy for the development of such a facility.
