LUCENA CITY - The construction of a slope protection structure here has been completed; the projects aim to benefit residents and tourists by providing slope stabilization measures for the landslide-prone sections of the Real, Infanta, and General Nakar (REINA) Area.
The Quezon I District Engineering Office reports the completion of slope protection structures along Famy-Real-Infanta-Dinahican Port Road, Marikina-Infanta Road, and Mauban-Tignoan Road under Organizational Outcome 1: Ensure Safe and Reliable National Road System: Asset Preservation Program.
These slope protection structures are crucial in preventing landslides and ensuring the safety of both residents and tourists who travel along these roads.
The completion of these projects is a significant step towards improving the overall infrastructure and transportation system in the REINA Area.
The construction of slope protection structures began with the Fiscal Year 2019 General Appropriations Act (GAA) and was funded on an annual basis through the allocation of government funds.
The implementation of this program demonstrates the government's commitment to maintaining and enhancing the road system, ultimately benefiting the economy and quality of life for those living in and visiting the REINA Area.
It entailed the use of an active slope protection system with a high-tensile wire mesh equipped with deep anchorage for slope stabilization and erosion control.
This innovative approach ensures the long-term stability of the road system in the REINA Area, reducing the risk of landslides and other natural disasters.
It also promotes accessibility and continuity of transportation of goods and services along national roads during natural disasters, particularly tropical storms, employs environmentally friendly engineering intervention for slope protection works, and provides additional safety for road users and the general public.
This technology is considered environmentally friendly because it preserves the existing trees in the area while also allowing other vegetation to grow.
A total of 59 slope protection projects were built form FY 2019 to FY 2023.
