BATANGAS CITY - The Magkatuwang Tayo Inter-Barangay Swimming Championship was held for the first time recently in Batangas City.
The competition was attended by 99 swimmers from 26 barangays in the city, including Badjao youths from Barangay Wawa, showcasing their swimming skills and sportsmanship.
The event aimed to promote physical fitness and healthy competition among the youth in the community.
The competition was held at the Batangas City Sports Complex's swimming pool, and the awarding ceremonies took place on June 14.
This is a project of Mayor Beverley Dimacuha and Cong. Marvey Marino, assistant Milo Phils., Swim League Phils., local and national swimming organizations, and the Batangas City Sports Council.
In the opening program of the said competition, Mayor Dimacuha emphasized in her message that her administration intends to further strengthen sports in the city to avoid bad vices such as illegal drugs, gambling, and excessive and misused gadgets.
She said some of the benefits of sports are developing leadership skills, having discipline, humility, and and maintaining physical and mental health.
Mayor also said that parental support is very important to the success of children in sports, and encouraged parents to actively participate in their children's sports activities. She also announced that the Sports Council will be organizing more sports events and programs for youth in the coming months to promote a healthy and active lifestyle.
"Cong. Marvey and I, as well as the City Council, are partners with you parents to ensure a bright future for your children," the Mayor stated.
The Mayor emphasized the importance of investing in the youth's physical and mental development, as they are the future of Batangas City.
According to Cong. Marvey, in addition to providing more productive activities for Batanguenos, the project aims to provide swimmers with sufficient skills and produce individuals who will represent the city in regional, national, and international competitions.
He also announced a plan to further improve the city's sports facilities to accommodate more sports and activities for the youth.
The program recognized the swimmers who represented Batangas City and the Philippines in local and international competitions, namely Ron Jairus Villamor, Robin Luise Tolentino, Hugh Alberto Parto and Hugh Antonio Parto.
Vice Mayor Alyssa Cruz and several city councilors also joined in the mentioned occasion to show their support for the development of sports in the city. In her speech, Vice Mayor Cruz emphasized the importance of providing opportunities for the youth to engage in sports and other physical activities to promote a healthy lifestyle and overall well-being.
