Lucena City LGU offers tax amnesty program for those who have not yet paid taxes

LUCENA CITY - For the second time, the City Government of Lucena is re-implementing the tax amnesty program for all real property tax delinquencies in the city.

The program aims to encourage taxpayers to settle their obligations and avoid further penalties and interest.

By virtue of City Ordinance No. 2821 that was passed by the Lucena City Council, will grant tax amnesty to all those who own land, houses or buildings,,Council, the city and machinery in the city who have not paid property tax from the year 2022 onwards.

Lerma Fajarda of the Treasurer's Office of Lucena City LGU, it is stated in the tax amnesty program that 50% of their interest or penalties will be deducted.

"Those who can avail of this are those who have not paid by 2022 or below 21, 20 and what the city government is giving is that if for example,if your tax due this year is 200 thousand, then the penalty that was imposed by the government is one hundred thousand, in addition to the interest of one hundred thousand, we will reduce it by 50%, so all you will have to pay is 150," said Fajarda.

For those who avail themselves and file early, there is an installment basis offered by the Treasurer's Office that can pay 25% of their tax due.

"If you can avail it, you will file in our office earlier this June, we can do it on an installment basis. You will only pay 25% of how much is much taxavail yourself ofJune, anddue, we will also deduct the penalty or interest of 50% and then we will divide it into the remaining months," said Fajarda.

The tax amnesty program of the local government of Lucena will end on October 31, 2023. It started on May 1 of this year.

The Treasurer's Office called on real property owners in Lucena City who have not settled their tax bills to avail themselves of this program, especially those with large tax bills.

“This is a great help to real tax payers who own real property here in the city. We want everyone to be able to avail of this, especially those who already have a large tax bill. This is a big help to you so that we can fix our taxes in the City of Lucena because Mayor Mark Alcala said to give them another chance to avail of this program again because we are going through a pandemic. The mayor wants to help our people," said Fajarda.

Fajarda said that there are administrative remedies that the Bureau of Government Finance wants to implement that requires them to auction those properties that the owners are paying attention to in order to settle the taxes.

"The LGU is also being rated about our collections, especially in the Department of Finance," said Fajarda.

The year 2022 is when the local government of Lucena City will first implement a tax amnesty program.
