LUCENA CITY, Quezon - Following a thorough assessment of the province's security situation, which revealed a significant decrease in insurgent activities in recent years, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has formally declared the entire province of Quezon insurgency-free in conjunction with the celebration of the 125th anniversary of Independence Day on Monday, June 12.
"We will continue to move forward," said Quezon Governor Angelina “Helen” Tan, who led the historic declaration along with officials of the AFP, PNP, and DILG, said this achievement is a testament to the government's efforts to promote peace and development in the region, and it is hoped that other provinces will follow suit in achieving lasting peace and progress.

She also emphasized the importance of continued collaboration and cooperation among all stakeholders to sustain the gains achieved so far and address remaining challenges in the pursuit of lasting peace and progress.
Governor Tan added that many residents in the province should feel the government's service to alleviate their poverty and improve their quality of life.
She highlighted the need for inclusive development programs that prioritize marginalized sectors and promote economic growth in the countryside.
'Poverty is the reason why many people are encouraged to accept the ideology of insurrection', according to the governor.
Because of this, she asked the local government units (LGUs), national government agencies (NGAs), and other sectors to be partners in providing programs and projects that can improve the lives of many residents in the region.
The governor emphasized that by addressing the root causes of insurgency, such as poverty and a lack of access to basic services, the government can effectively counter the spread of extremist ideologies and promote lasting peace and development in the area.
Tan emphasized that declaration is the beginning of the expected growth of tourism, the influx of businesses, and progressive development in the entire province of Quezon, “The significance of sustainable development practices for ensuring that future generations will benefit from growth. With proper planning and implementation, Quezon Province can become a model for inclusive and sustainable development in the Philippines." she said.
She said it will also pave the way to deliver relevant services to different parts of the province and uplift the quality of life of its residents.
"This can be achieved through the collaboration and participation of all stakeholders, including the government, private sector, and local communities. By working together towards a common goal, Quezon Province can create a brighter and more prosperous future for generations to come." she said.
In this regard, the governor asked local governments, government agencies, and other sectors to be partners in providing programs and projects that can improve the lives of many residents in the province.
She added the importance of collaboration and cooperation in achieving sustainable development and progress for Quezon Province. She urged the private sector to also take part in these efforts by investing in the province's economy and supporting local businesses.
There was also the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and support for the Local Peace Engagement Resolution between municipal and city mayors and Governor Tan in order to maintain 'internal peace and security' throughout the province.
Furthermore, the government has also implemented various infrastructure projects, such as road construction and rehabilitation, to improve accessibility and transportation in the province. These initiatives aim to boost economic growth and development, promote peace and stability, and enhance the overall quality of life for the people of the province.
