SAN PABLO CITY, Laguna – Three platforms for information dissemination were simultaneously launched to expand the reach of the San Pablo City Government in promoting government initiatives and projects to the community.

In a ceremony on June 2 at the Pamana Hall of the San Pablo City Hall, City Information Officer Enrico Galicia thanked the city department heads’ and Sangguniang Panlungsod’s support to the mandate and functions of the City Information Office (CIO).

Through the newly-created Barangay Information Officers or BIOs in the city’s 80 barangays, relevant updates about the communities will be disseminated through online platforms pursuant to Executive Order No. 25 that Mayor Vicente Amante signed on May 31.

The BIOs shall provide assistance in the delivery of proper, relevant and timely information regarding the programs, projects, activities of the city government among its community members.

They were also asked to support the elected officials in keeping the constituents informed about the programs and projects of their own Sangguniang Barangay through social media and traditional media platforms.

Other platforms launched were the weekly news program entitled CIO Weekly Report – an online news program showing the events during the week – and the city’s official publication entitled BASA PA or Balitang San Pablo which will be released bi-annually.

City Vice Mayor Justin Colago commended the CIO in ensuring that truthful and balanced news will be produced and disseminated to the public especially in times of pandemic and disasters.

He cited the challenge of combating disinformation in social media noting the need for legitimate and credible sources online.

BIOs are expected to undergo capacity development training and workshops in photojournalism and news writing to upgrade their skills and knowledge. (CH/PIA-Laguna)
