TAGKAWAYAN, Quezon - The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region 4A recently held a meeting and sample collection at a shrimp hatchery in Tagkawayan, Quezon, with the goal of strengthening the shrimp industries in the area.
The BFAR also discussed potential partnerships with local shrimp farmers and provided technical assistance to improve their production and profitability.
The agency also plans to conduct further research on sustainable shrimp farming practices to ensure the long-term viability of the industry in Tagkawayan and beyond.
The Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) of Tagkawayan, Quezon, and operators and brokers of shrimp hatcheries met under the direction of the Fisheries Integrated Laboratory Unit to discuss best practices in aquaculture, the need for farm registration, and issues the town's shrimp industry is currently facing.
MAO stated that the goal is to strengthen and revitalize the town's shrimp industries, which have faced challenges such as disease outbreaks and market competition.
Farmers will receive training and technical assistance from the Integrated Laboratory Unit to improve their production techniques and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
Additionally, the unit will collaborate with local universities and research institutions to conduct studies on sustainable aquaculture practices and develop new technologies for the industry.
Possible solutions to issues in the said industry were also discussed here through communication with the fisheries bureau.
