TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite - Recognizing the valuable contribution of agriculture and fishery as the primary sector of the economy in Cavite, the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) and Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPV) joined hands to celebrate and empower farmers-fisherfolks-entrepreneurs during the Agri-Entrepreneurs’ Day on July 20-21, 2023 at the OPA Compound in Trece Martires City.

Aptly themed, “Nagyamang Produkto sa Kanayunan at Kalunsuran Halina’t Ating Tangkilikin at Suportahan”, the event was participated by 32 exhibitors who showcased their exceptional goods and products, igniting the immense potential of the agricultural and fishery industries.

The program started with a warm welcome from Ms. Lorna E. Aviñante, Officer-in-Charge of OPA conveying her sincere thanks to the guests and participants who joined in the celebration and urged them to always support the dedicated and hardworking farmers, fishermen, as well as small entrepreneurs.

Likewise, Dr. May Magno, Provincial Veterinarian, emphasized the importance of agriculture saying that without a reliable agricultural industry, the basic food necessities would be compromised.

Silang Municipal Agriculturist, Ms. Adelia Poblete, commended the conduct of the event for serving as a platform and driving force for farmers and fisherfolks. She reiterated that continuous support is needed for the growth and progress of these essential sectors.

Ms. Sherylou Alfaro, Assistant Center Director of Agriculture Training Institute, expressed the desire of enhancing agricultural products to cater the demands of tourists, as agri-tourism remains significant in Cavite. “Hindi pababayaan ang produksyon, tututukan ang pagma-market at pag-eenhance ng mga produkto”, she said.

Additionally, she assured the attendees that despite how industrialized the future would be, the agriculture and fishery sectors in the region, particularly in Cavite, will never be neglected. As she ended her message, Ms. Alfaro quoted President Bongbong Marcos, “Agriculture will always be the major contributor of the national economy”.

Afterwards, Ms. Cynthia Perez, Mr. Alex Ferrera, and Mr. Joel del Rosario shared their invaluable knowledge and a step-by-step demonstration on Hydroponics to those who want to dive into the agricultural method.-
