TRECE MARTIRES, Cavite - At the Cavite Collaboration Center for Public Health in Trece Martires City, Cavite led this year's CALABARZON Nutrition Month launching, which also served as the start of the provincial celebration.
Nutrition pioneers from the various provinces in the southern Tagalog region, representatives from the National Nutrition Council-Calabarzon, members of the Provincial Nutrition Committee, city and municipal nutrition action officers, and barangay nutrition scholars from Cavite all attended the event, which was organized by the Nutrition Cluster of the Office of the Provincial Health Officer.
This year's Nutrition Month program, which had the theme "Healthy Diet going affordable for all," emphasized the importance of promoting sustainable healthy diets and making them more accessible in order to raise nutritional security and status.
Alvin Mojica, the provincial administrator for community affairs, welcomed the attendees and spoke on Governor Jonvic Remulla's behalf, reiterating the support of the provincial government for the nutrition programs.
Ms. Carina Santiago, the regional nutrition program coordinator, and Dr. Ariel I. Valencia, the director of DOH-CHD Calabarzon, also sent supportive messages in their absence.
Ms. Lourdes Orongan, Nutrition Officer III of NNC-Calabarzon, shared startling statistics during her discussion of the nutrition month talking points that showed how Filipinos frequently misallocate their food spending despite the fact that food prices are rising.
She emphasized the need for policies and investments aimed at lowering the cost of nourishing food in order to achieve a healthy diet among families as opposed to simply settling for an energy sufficient diet.
During the program, the provincial nutrition action officer for Cavite shared some of the province's nutrition initiatives aimed at encouraging residents to eat healthily.
Other activities in the program included the awarding of certificates to nutrition focal persons alongside the guests and Provincial Epidemiologist Dr. Nelson Soriano; a Nutri Quiz; and a pledge of commitment by nutrition stakeholders, including the President of NAOPA Cavite, the President of the BNS Federation, and representatives of PNC member agencies and organizations, including the DILG, the DOS, the RNC Kabisig ng Kalahi, and the PGC offices.
