BATANGAS CITY - Dozens of students across the city along with their parents and volunteers, met at Batangas City Sports Coliseum recently for a new program born out of a partnership between the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) and Department of Education (DepEd) Batangas City.

These are the students from Banaba East, Balete Relocation Site, and Balagtas Elementary School who participated in the two-day basic swimming training course.

This comprehensive program was developed by the CDRRMO, DepEd Batangas City, and local swimming instructors to teach students basic swimming techniques and water safety.

The CDRRMO and DepEd Batangas City hope to create a safer environment for students and promote a culture of preparedness in the community through this collaboration.

The goal of the program, according to Leoven Venus of the Razor Backs Swimming Sports Clinic, who served as an instructor, is to provide students with essential swimming skills and knowledge to ensure their safety in and around water.

To build their confidence and ability to swim independently, they will be taught proper breathing techniques, floating, and basic strokes.

During the training, participants were also taught the proper way to swim, which they could use to save lives in emergencies and natural disasters.

They were also taught what to do if they got muscle cramps in the water and how to get out of the water safely if they got into a dangerous situation.

Participants also learned about water safety rules and how to assess potential risks before entering unfamiliar bodies of water.
