GUINAYANGAN, Quezon - Guinayangan Town participated in the 45th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week, with the theme "Persons with Disabilities Accessibility and Rights: Towards a Sustainable Future where No One is Left Behind," to support all programs for people with special needs.
Mayor Maden Isaac of the Center for Health Development IV-A Quezon Provincial Health Office led the activity in collaboration with the Municipal Social Welfare Development Office (MSWDO) and the Municipal Health Office (MHO) to successfully implement various activities and initiatives for the week-long celebration.
The event, according to Mayor Maden Isaac, aimed to raise awareness about the importance of inclusivity and equal opportunities for people with special needs.
It also aimed to promote the adoption of policies and programs that would improve their access to education, healthcare, employment, and other basic services.
Persons with Disabilities (PWD) were able to receive medical advice and support tailored to their specific needs thanks to MHO, led by Angel Ardiente, Jr., MD, FPAMS.
Ardiente stated that it is critical to address people with disabilities' specific healthcare needs and ensure that they have equal access to high-quality medical care. The free consultations aimed to empower people with disabilities by providing them with the information and resources they needed to manage their health effectively.
Meanwhile, according to Gerardo Cleofe of MSWDO, the consultations served as a forum for raising awareness about the barriers that PWDs face in accessing healthcare services.
Ardiente stated that by raising awareness of these issues, he hoped to advocate for policy changes and improvements in the healthcare system to better meet the needs of people with disabilities.
Cleofe also mentioned that the consultations helped PWDs develop a sense of community by allowing them to share their experiences and support one another as they navigated the healthcare system.
MHO and MSWDO intended to work with local organizations and stakeholders to create a more inclusive and accessible healthcare environment for people with disabilities.
