CALAMBA CITY, Laguna - The Jose Rizal Coliseum, named after the national hero Jose Rizal that stands as a symbol of pride for the city and a testament to its growing prominence was recently opened to the general public.

The inauguration of the coliseum was witnessed and attended by Governor Ramil Hernandez and Congresswoman Ruth Hernandez marking on this occasion the completion of Calamba City’s most important infrastructure project to date.

The coliseum, with its state-of-the-art facilities and seating capacity of 10,000, is expected to attract national and international events, boosting tourism and economic growth in the city.

It is shaped like a jar, which symbolizes the city with its circular shape. The monument of Dr. Jose Rizal can be seen in front of it , paying homage to the national hero's connection to Calamba City.

The coliseum's strategic location near major transportation hubs also ensures easy accessibility for both local residents and visitors from neighboring areas.

Meanwhile, Calamba Mayor Roseller Rizal held his State of the City Address, Ramdam na Reforma Report on July 21, 2023, in the coliseum to update the community on the progress and achievements of his administration.

Being a relative of Jose Rizal, according to the mayor, he is proud to see the coliseum honoring his ancestor's legacy and serving as a testament to Calamba's cultural heritage.

He said the Jose Rizal Coliseum has become an iconic symbol of Calamba's rich history and serves as a gathering place for various events and celebrations.

The coliseum's modern facilities and spacious seating capacity make it an ideal venue for concerts, sports tournaments, and other large-scale activities that contribute to the city's vibrant cultural scene.

The coliseum itself is not only a venue for various events and activities but also a popular tourist attraction, drawing visitors from all over the world to witness its grandeur and pay homage to the country's national hero.

He believes that the coliseum plays a crucial role in fostering community engagement and pride, as it brings people together and showcases the city's talent and creativity.
