SARIAYA, Quezon - The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) held hands-on training on July 18, 2023, for the Basic Life Support (BLS) orientation and seminar for the Bantay Barangays, covering topics such as CPR, first aid techniques, and emergency response protocols.

Mayor Marcelo Mayor Marcelo Predilla Gayeta, represented by Acting Municipal Administrator and Public Information Officer Ronan Nantes, said that the training sessions were conducted to equip the Bantay Barangay members with essential skills and knowledge in responding to emergencies effectively.



According to Nantes, once the selected members of Bantay Barangay have completed the BLS, they can become partners of the local government through the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and Council during calamities.

He added that the training also aimed to strengthen the coordination and collaboration between the Bantay Barangay members and other emergency response agencies in the municipality. This would ensure a more efficient and cohesive response during emergencies, ultimately enhancing the overall safety and well-being of the community.

Nantes said the mayor has recognized the importance of involving the community in disaster preparedness and response efforts. By actively engaging Bantay Barangay members, the mayor is empowering residents to take an active role in safeguarding their own neighborhoods and supporting the local government's initiatives.

The purpose of this training is to provide knowledge and skills to Bantay Barangay members during calamities or disasters because they serve as force multipliers for the town government. The Bantay Barangay trainees were divided into two batches; the training will end on Friday, July 21 , 2023.

The training curriculum includes topics such as emergency response protocols, first aid techniques, and disaster risk reduction strategies. By equipping Bantay Barangay members with these essential skills, the mayor aims to enhance the community's overall resilience and preparedness in times of crisis.

This partnership between the municipality and its residents fosters a sense of shared responsibility and resilience, making the community better equipped to face future calamities and recover more quickly.

It also strengthens the bond between the local government and its constituents, building trust and cooperation. With the active participation of Bantay Barangay members, the municipality can establish a comprehensive disaster management plan that addresses the specific needs and challenges of their community.

This activity is still part of observing National Disaster Resilience Month 2023 with the theme, "BIDAng Pilipino: Building a Stronger Filipino Well-Being towards Disaster Resilience".
