BATANGAS CITY - A recent orientation on online sexual abuse and exploitation of children in this city with the aim of raising awareness among teachers and educators about grooming, sextortion, and child pornography taught them how to identify and report such cases.
On July 24, 2023, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) IV-A conducted an orientation about Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) at the Teachers Conference Center.
Participants will learn how to identify warning signs, report suspicious activities, and protect children from becoming victims. Additionally, the orientation will provide resources and strategies for parents, educators, and law enforcement agencies to collaborate in combating this pervasive issue.
This is part of the aforementioned department's Cyber Safety Caravan, and it is in conjunction with the commemoration of the 2023 World Day Against Trafficking, with the theme "Research Every Victim of Trafficking, Leave No One Behind."
The sharing or dissemination of indecent images and videos of children on the internet, as well as the exploitation of their infancy, is referred to as OSAEC.
World Hope International social worker Donnie Ray Alolor served as a resource speaker, sharing the steps that the local government should take to prevent OSAEC and ensure the safety of young people from various forms of trafficking.
RA 11930, or the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children and Anti-Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials (CSAEM) Act, is also discussed here, with the goal of protecting children from online sexual abuse and preventing exploitive materials online where children are also used.
The orientation emphasized civil servants' and public officials' responsibility to protect the next generation from the aforementioned abuses.
In this regard, the Batangas City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) assists DSWD Region IV-A.
To support the aforementioned advocacy, DSWD IV-A representatives Raymond Villafuerte and Ana Marie Mondelo, OIC CSWD Officer Hiyasmin Candava, Focal Child Youth Program Coordinator Daisy Arellano, and Nenita Baja of the City Social Welfare & Development Office (CSWDO) attended the event.
