TAYABAS CITY, Quezon - The workshop, which focuses on techniques and best practices for standardizing and integrating data from multiple sources while ensuring consistency and accuracy, was recently held here to assist organizations in streamlining their data management processes.
The Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) and Philippine Statistic Authority (PSA) continued their collaboration and partnership by holding a data harmonization workshop in Tayabas City on June 22-23, 2023, at the Palaisdaan Hotel and Resort.
The activity aims to establish a system that will harmonize the two agencies' available data, given that the PCA will use statistics as a measure of success in its productivity programs, which include Accelerated Coconut Planting and Fertilization and, more importantly, the implementation of the Coconut Hybridization Program under the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan.
This is the first step toward harmonizing coconut data; future seminars and specialized group discussions are planned.
According to PSA IV-A Regional Director Charito Armonia, their agency publishes Quarterly Coconut Production Statistics, while the PCA has been running productivity programs like replanting improved varieties and coconut fertilization for more than a decade, and has been focusing on more areas for replanting hybrids and open-pollinated varieties (OPV) that are thought to be high-yielding and early-fruiting.
Armonia added that it is important and necessary to harmonize the data held by the PCA and the Philippine Statistics Authority due to the knowledge of the importance of reliable coconut statistics, which are always the basis for strategic planning.
The workshop was attended by all PCA Provincial Managers, PSA RSSO IV-A Chief Statistical Specialist, PCAs, and PSA Regional Employees.
