BATANGAS CITY - "We are truly Sandugo, one blood; we will remain passionate and strong-hearted in our province; and we can truly raise the level of unity through our blood through our example and collective effort."
In his message, Governor Hermilando Mandanas emphasized the importance of the Voluntary Blood Services Program in promoting unity and solidarity among the people of their province at the SANDUGO Awards 2023, which were held on August 18, 2023, at the Provincial Auditorium, Capitol Site, Batangas City.
The Provincial Government of Batangas and the Provincial Blood Council recognized and honored individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the Voluntary Blood Services Program.
Mandanas expressed his gratitude towards the awardees for their dedication and commitment in promoting the culture of blood donation, which ultimately strengthens the bond among the people of Batangas.
He also encouraged everyone to continue supporting and participating in this program to further enhance unity and solidarity within the province.
With the help of the advocates of the said program and every member of the council, the province is able to promote the availability of resources that are sufficient to supply safe blood and other quality-assured blood products for the benefit of the community.
This initiative not only saves lives but also fosters a sense of responsibility and compassion among the residents of Batangas and other people in neighboring provinces.
Towns and cities with the highest blood collection accomplishments that exceeded the set target of 1% of collected blood, based on the total population for the year 2022, were recognized in this program.
Among the top-performing cities, Batangas City took the lead with a 256% total blood collection accomplishment, followed by the cities of Lipa (185%) and Tanauan (157%).
The town of Alitagtag took the lead as the top-performing municipality with a record of 263% blood collection accomplishment, followed by the towns of Cuenca (219%) and Malvar (199%).
The blood council also recognized the local governments that recorded more than 100% blood collection accomplishments, including the cities of Sto. Tomas (151%), Calaca (100%), and the Towns of Taysan (161%), Calatagan (154), Nasugbu (150%), and Balayan (101%).
The council also awarded recognition to other local governments and organizations in the province that partner in the continuous implementation of blood donation programs.
In addition to this, the appreciation given by the council to some individuals is part of the desire to volunteer to donate blood and help those in need. Among them are volunteer blood donor and blood galloner awardee Ms. Elena Driz, sixty-eight years old, from Barangay Libjo, Batangas City, and the blood recipient, Audrey Brielle Buela, a cancer patient from the Cancer Warrior Foundation.
Meanwhile, Provincial Health Officer and current president of the blood council, Dr. Rosvilinda Ozaeta, proudly shared that the Batangas Provincial Blood Council is the only living and active blood council in the entire Calabarzon region. He also encouraged everyone to participate in voluntary blood donation so that many more can be helped and lives can be connected.
