LUCENA CITY - The implementation of new accounting standards and best practices in local government units was the topic of a meeting of the Association of Municipal Accountants of Quezon (AMAZON) on August 17, 2023, in Lucena City's capitol building conference room.

Alberto Bay Jr. of the Office of the Provincial Accountant presided over the meeting, which aimed to give municipal accountants guidance and support as they adjusted to changes in accounting standards.

Representatives from various municipalities in Quezon Province attended the meeting and actively participated in the discussions, sharing their experiences with effectively managing financial resources.

Guest speakers from well-known accounting firms were invited to share their perspectives on emerging trends in municipal accounting and provide advice on how to navigate potential challenges.

Meanwhile, local government units (LGUs) that received a high audit rating or an Unmodified Opinion from the Commission on Audit (COA) were recognized at the meeting for their exemplary financial management practices.

The local governments were praised for their transparent and accountable use of public funds, serving as models for other municipalities in Quezon province.

The recognition of LGUs with high audit ratings highlights the importance of effective financial management in the public sector.

Municipal Mayors expressed their gratitude for the recognition and emphasized their commitment to continue implementing sound financial practices in their respective LGUs.

They also shared their experiences and best practices with other mayors, fostering a culture of collaboration and knowledge-sharing among local government leaders.
