LUCENA CITY - Quezon Board Member Ferdinand 'Bong” Talabong called out Prime Water Infrastructure Corp. for their inability to effectively resolve the ongoing water shortage problem in Lucena City.
Talabong expressed his concern regarding the water shortage in Lucena City and urged the company to take immediate action to resolve the issue in a privilege speech on Tuesday, August 22, during the regular session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
He outlined the impacts of the water shortage on residents and businesses in Lucena City, Tayabas City, and Pagbilao, underscoring the significance of a consistent and sustainable water supply for these communities.
The lawyer abruptly added that if it cannot be resolved, he will not hesitate to filea formal complaint against the company responsible for the water shortage.
Talabong highlighted the urgency of the situation and stressed that the affected residents and businesses deserve a prompt solution to their water supply problems.
Talabong, a lawyer by profession, stated that he is well aware of the legal implications and consequences that the company may face if they fail to address the water shortage issue for breach of contract and specific performance.
He further mentioned that he is prepared to take all necessary legal actions to ensure that the rights of the affected residents and businesses are protected and that they receive the compensation they deserve for the inconvenience caused.
Meanwhile, the water company said that they are actively working to resolve the water shortage issue and are committed to finding a solution as quickly as possible.
They acknowledge the concerns raised by the lawyer and assure that they will take all necessary steps to avoid any legal repercussions and fulfill their contractual obligations.
However, Talabong, the lawyer representing the affected residents and businesses, expressed skepticism towards the water company's commitment and called for transparency in their actions.
He emphasized the importance of regular updates and clear communication to ensure that the issue is resolved effectively and in a timely manner.
Prime Water and the Quezon Metropolitan Water District entered into a joint venture agreement on August 16, 2018 to improve the water supply and distribution system in the area.
The agreement outlined the responsibilities and obligations of both parties, including the provision of uninterrupted water service to residents and businesses.
Recent occurrences of water scarcity have generated worries among those affected, casting doubt on Prime Water's capacity to meet its contractual duties.
Talabong's skepticism highlights the need for Prime Water to be transparent in their actions and provide regular updates to regain the trust of the community.
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan recently invited Prime Water and the QMWD to a public hearing to answer residents' complaints. They revealed that they need another five years to improve their services and suit the needs of the community.
This announcement further fueled the skepticism and raised questions about Prime Water's competence and commitment to improving the water services in the area.
