LOPEZ, Quezon - In honor of National Disaster Resilience Month, whose theme this year is BIDang Pilipino: Building a Stronger Filipino Well-Being Toward Disaster Resilience, Lopez Mayor Rachel Ubana lauded the local government unit's (LGU) efforts to promote disaster resiliency within the community and citizens.

Along with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Unit (MDRRMU), led by Eunice Ebora, and the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Unit (MENRU), led by Ted Arias , the LGU has implemented various programs and initiatives to enhance disaster preparedness and response.

These include conducting regular trainings and drills, establishing early warning systems, and implementing sustainable environmental practices to mitigate the impact of disasters on the community.

The Lopez LGU has acknowledged the value of teamwork and collaboration in reducing disaster risk and managing it. To ensure a coordinated and comprehensive approach to disaster preparedness, they have actively collaborated with local communities, non-governmental organizations, and other governmental agencies, including the AFP Charlie Coy 85th Infantry Battalion, PA 2ID, LMPS, BFP Lopez, DepEd Lopez East and West District, Lopez Water District, and DILG. CSOs like the Police Hotline Movement, Inc., KB Malaya 111 Lopez Chapter, Philippine Guardian Brotherhood Inc., Eagles Response Team, and Kabalikat- Civicom were also honored.

Mayor Rachel was also recognized by Barangay Chiefs led by ABC President Kap. Gilda Tanteo and some SK Chairpersons in the recognition ceremony for their efforts in promoting disaster preparedness and fostering collaboration among various stakeholders.

The involvement of these local leaders highlights the collaborative efforts between the government and grassroots organizations in addressing community issues and promoting citizen participation.

After the program, tree planting was done at the Lopez Eco-Park and Tree Planting Site in Barangay Concepcion to further emphasize the commitment to environmental sustainability and the importance of preserving natural resources.

The tree planting activity aimed to not only beautify the area but also contribute to mitigating the effects of climate change and enhancing biodiversity in the community.

The MDRRMU office also distributed to each organization a trauma bag containing a sphygmomanometer, hot bag, ice bag, sam split, elastic bandage, micropore adhesive, cotton applicator, band aid or adhesive, gauze, tongue depressor, thermometer, bandage scissors, cotton balls, alcohol, povidone iodine, face mask, surgical gloves, and triangular bandages.
