BATANGAS CITY - The city government of Batangas recently recognized several barangays for their proper and effective implementation of proper waste management in the "Ka-BRAD Awards (Katuwang ng Barangay Responsible, Active, Disciplined Environmental Citizen Action).

About 26 of the 105 barangays in the city were recognized and received the award as the top-performing Barangays in the Solid East Cluster.



Among them are the barangays of Maapaz, Sampaga, Talumpok East, Mahacot Silangan, Paharang Kanluran, Pallocan West at San Jose Sico; Solid Upland - Haligue Silangan, Tabangao Dao, Maruclap, Dumuclay; Solid North ay Sorosoro Ibaba, Bolbok, Balagtas, Balete, Bucal, Banaba South, Tinga Labac; Solid Poblacion - Pob. 6, Pob. 24, Pob. 1, Pob. 13, Pob. 2 at Pob. 12; Solid Baybay - Talahib Pandayan, Tabangao Ambulong, Pagkilatan, Dela Paz Pulot Itaas, Dela Paz Pulot Aplaya, San Agapito at San Andres.

The barangays of Talahib Pandayan, Maapaz, Sororo Ibaba, Poblacion 13, and Haligue Silangan won as the best barangays in Community Involvement.

The barangays of Dela Paz Pulot Itaas, Tabangao Ambulong, Sampaga, Balagtas, Balete, Sorosoro Ibaba, and Haligue Silangan were named the Best Barangay in Materials Recovery Facility Operations.

For the Best Barangay in Innovation and Sustainability, Barangays Tabangao Ambulong, Talumpok East, Sorosoro Ibaba, Poblacion 24, and Tabangao Dao were selected.

The best barangay in Beautification was awarded to Pagkilanta. Maapaz, Bolbok, Sorosoro Ibaba, Poblacion 2, and Tabangao Dao.

According to the Batangas City Solid Waste Management Board (BCSWMB), which took the lead in awarding the award, some of the criteria for the selection of the winners were skill in the implementation of waste segregation, having a solid waste management plan, and active participation in the programs of the city government when it comes to waste management.

They said that the basis also includes the availability of materials recovery facilities in their community and the implementation of innovative methods to reduce waste in their communities.

In the message of Mayor Beverly Dimacuha, he asked the barangays for their continued participation in the programs of the city government when it comes to maintaining cleanliness.

"Hopefully, even without this recognition, it is necessary for us to start taking the lead and continue the cleanup and beautification of the environment that we have started, especially the proper waste management, When we start this and do it regularly, we will be able to get used to cleaning," said Dimacuha.
